Today I spent the afternoon at the Peninsula Humane Society. I was fortunate enough to spend a long time with both of the dogs that I worked with. First, I took out an eight year old beagle named April. She had only been at the Humane Society since the 9th of April and she was a pure bred and very cute, however her age could be troublesome when it comes to her getting adopted. She seemed very independent when I walked her and took her out to the play area, but definitely had been trained before she arrived to the Humane Society because she knew her commands. Both of these attributes are typical of older dogs, though. I felt for April because of her age and because she acted in a way that made me think that she had had a loving home before she arrived and that she did not understand why she was now in a kennel for a good portion of the day. Hopefully someone will disregard the fact that she's not a puppy and will take her home soon because the older dogs do not always handle being at the Humane Society as well as some of the younger, livelier ones do.

I also took out Luna, a two year old german shepherd. She was very energetic and sweet, just ready to get out and go. She had only been at the Humane Society since May 11, when her previous owners had to surrender her because they were moving. She was a great dog to take out and play with; she loved all of the toys in the play area and really loved playing fetch. She had absolutely no idea how to behave on a leash or listen to commands, though; it was a little amusing. Hopefully she will learn quickly, and I have no doubt that she will be adopted quickly due to her breed, age, and disposition.

I also learned that Nutella (who I mentioned in a previous post) was adopted!
