Today while at the the Peninsula Pet Hospital I came across a ten year old, retriever mix named Miles, who was transferred from the emergency vet clinic because he had a stroke at three AM the previous night. The hospital was going to monitor him, nurse him, do his blood work and see how he reacts. Because he was in the back and in the dog ward, I only noticed that he was there because he was howling and moaning. I felt very bad for Miles; he did not seem to be in great shape.

Next I met a cat named Lai Lai who had a sebaceous cyst under his chin, which as Dr. Harish explained is sort of like acne in that it is a benign lump under the skin filled with oily fluid. He informed Lai Lai's owner that the cyst was not harmful, and used a styptic pen to stop the bleeding from the surrounding scab. The appointment then concluded with Lai Lai getting his nails trimmed and his owner getting some advice about diet food (since Lai Lai was a little portly).

Daisy, a sheepdog, was at the vet this morning because she had a broken tooth, so she underwent tooth surgery. Dr. Harish cut a flap into her gums, which makes it easier and safer to drill and remove the broken tooth. The vet technician then proceeded to remove the different parts of the tooth, and let me pull out a couple of pieces as well.

The last animal that I encountered this morning was an overweight (eighteen pounds) cat named Aries, who unfortunately had such horrible overgrown nails that the nails had grown out so much that they had rotated back and punctured the pad in Aries' paws. Poor Aries was in a lot of pain, and the hospital had to cut the nails and suture up the wounds in Aries' paws.
